Terms of Service
Last updated: June 20, 2026
Short version
Hydra is open-source software that runs locally on your machine. You're responsible for how you use it, including complying with the terms of service of any platforms you connect. We provide Hydra as-is, with no warranty. The code is MIT-licensed.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Hydra desktop application, Chrome extension, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service") provided by Boe Ventures AS ("we", "us", "our"), a company registered in Norway.
By downloading, installing, or using Hydra, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. What Hydra Is
Hydra is a local-first application that bridges your existing messaging conversations into a unified local database. It consists of:
- A Chrome extension that reads conversations from platforms you're already signed into
- A desktop application (macOS) that stores and displays your conversation data locally
- An optional MCP server that exposes your local data to AI agents running on your machine
Hydra operates using your existing browser sessions. It does not create accounts, store passwords, or authenticate with platforms on your behalf.
3. Your Responsibilities
3.1 Platform compliance
Hydra accesses third-party platforms using your active browser sessions. You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of Hydra complies with the terms of service of each platform you connect. Some platforms may restrict automated access or session reuse. We do not guarantee that using Hydra is permitted by any third-party platform.
3.2 Your data
All conversation data fetched by Hydra is stored locally on your device. You are responsible for:
- Securing your device and the Hydra database
- Backing up any data you want to preserve (Hydra's default mode is ephemeral — a rolling snapshot, not an archive)
- Ensuring you have the right to access and store the conversations Hydra fetches (you typically do, as these are your own conversations)
3.3 Lawful use
You agree not to use Hydra to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation, including data protection laws
- Access conversations or data you don't have authorization to access
- Harass, stalk, or monitor others without their consent
- Scrape or bulk-collect data for commercial resale or spam
- Circumvent security measures, rate limits, or access controls on third-party platforms
4. Open Source License
Hydra's source code is released under the MIT License. You may use, modify, and distribute the code in accordance with that license. These Terms govern your use of the Service (the compiled application, extension, and website) — the MIT License governs the source code.
5. Optional Paid Features
Hydra's core functionality is free and open source. We may offer optional paid features in the future (such as cloud sync, multi-device support, or hosted MCP). Pricing and terms for paid features will be clearly communicated before purchase. The core local-first functionality will always remain free.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
Hydra is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- Hydra will work with any specific platform (platforms may change their APIs or block automated access at any time)
- Data fetched by Hydra will be complete, accurate, or up to date
- Hydra will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
- Using Hydra will not result in any action by third-party platforms against your accounts
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Boe Ventures AS shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data (your local database is your responsibility)
- Account suspension or termination by third-party platforms
- Unauthorized access to your local Hydra data by third parties
- Any damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service
Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which may be zero if you only use the free tier).
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Boe Ventures AS from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of Hydra, including any violations of third-party platform terms of service.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via our GitHub repository and website. Continued use of Hydra after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Oslo, Norway. If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, you retain the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence.
